“Allyuh, they come to kill me,” were the chilling words of Penal labourer Brandon Harripersad, seconds before he was fatally shot by bandits at his home on Monday night.
As they escaped in his family’s car, the bandits rolled over the body of the 34-year-old man. During the ordeal, Harripersad’s father, Sheldon Harripersad, 54, was also injured.
Around 10.45 pm, Harripersad was in the garage area of his home at Batchyia Village when his relatives heard him shout out.
According to a police report, a female relative who was inside the house heard several gunshots, and as she opened the front door, two masked bandits accosted her.
They demanded cash, jewellery and the keys for a white Mazda 3. Harripersad’s father was shot as he ran out of the house, but he escaped. The female relative told police the bandits got into her car, and while making their escape, drove over Harripersad as he lay on the ground, bleeding.
Harripersad’s father was taken to the Siparia Health Facility, then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital and was subsequently discharged.
