The woman who was found dead in a house in Curepe on Sat­ur­day has been iden­ti­fied as Alana Roopc­hand of Bangladesh Vil­lage, St Joseph.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, an off-du­ty of­fi­cer alert­ed his coun­ter­parts from the St Joseph Po­lice Sta­tion around 8 am that the body of the 32-year-old could be found on a mat­tress in a par­tial­ly burnt, aban­doned house at Mc Don­nell Street, Curepe.

Re­ports in­di­cate the off-du­ty of­fi­cer had been wash­ing down his yard when he was ap­proached by a man and told to check his cam­eras, as a dead woman was seen in the derelict house.

Up­on check­ing, the of­fi­cer dis­cov­ered the par­tial­ly nude Roopc­hand ly­ing on a mat­tress on her back, with a wood­en han­dle knife stuck in the right side of her neck. A brown cloth cov­ered her face.

The Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer vis­it­ed the scene and or­dered an au­top­sy to be con­duct­ed at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre.

Among the ev­i­dence col­lect­ed at the scene were sev­er­al ar­ti­cles of cloth­ing, two knives, a bed sheet, one con­dom pack and an emp­ty cig­a­rette box.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors learnt that Roopc­hand was last seen in the Curepe area, af­ter telling sev­er­al peo­ple she was “go­ing to han­dle a scene.”

Po­lice said a friend who lat­er checked for her at the aban­doned house was the one who al­leged­ly found her dead.
