A Barataria woman had to be treated at hospital, after she was beaten and robbed by four men during a home invasion in the early hours of Wednesday.
Police said the 58-year-old woman, of Eleventh Street, Barataria, secured her home and retired to bed around 8 pm on Tuesday.
She was awakened by a noise around 3.45 am and found two masked men standing over her bed.
One of the men was armed with a gun, which he used to beat her about the face and head as they demanded cash and valuables.
As the armed man stood guard, the other three suspects ransacked the house, including the three bedrooms, taking cash and valuables before fleeing via a door on the southern side of the house where the padlock had been cut.
The injured woman raised an alarm and was assisted by a relative living close by, who contacted the police.
Several officers from the Barataria CID visited the scene and interviewed several people.
The woman told police that TT$1,500 and US$100 in cash had been stolen, along with a Samsung A15 cell phone valued at $1,300.
Police, as part of their investigation, requested CCTV footage from those close by.
The 58-year-old woman was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where she was treated for a 7 cm laceration to the back of her head, as well as soft tissue injuries to the face, upper and lower lips.
