A Barataria woman had to be treat­ed at hos­pi­tal, af­ter she was beat­en and robbed by four men dur­ing a home in­va­sion in the ear­ly hours of Wednes­day.

Po­lice said the 58-year-old woman, of Eleventh Street, Barataria, se­cured her home and re­tired to bed around 8 pm on Tues­day.

She was awak­ened by a noise around 3.45 am and found two masked men stand­ing over her bed.

One of the men was armed with a gun, which he used to beat her about the face and head as they de­mand­ed cash and valu­ables.

As the armed man stood guard, the oth­er three sus­pects ran­sacked the house, in­clud­ing the three bed­rooms, tak­ing cash and valu­ables be­fore flee­ing via a door on the south­ern side of the house where the pad­lock had been cut.

The in­jured woman raised an alarm and was as­sist­ed by a rel­a­tive liv­ing close by, who con­tact­ed the po­lice.

Sev­er­al of­fi­cers from the Barataria CID vis­it­ed the scene and in­ter­viewed sev­er­al peo­ple.

The woman told po­lice that TT$1,500 and US$100 in cash had been stolen, along with a Sam­sung A15 cell phone val­ued at $1,300.

Po­lice, as part of their in­ves­ti­ga­tion, re­quest­ed CCTV footage from those close by.

The 58-year-old woman was tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope, where she was treat­ed for a 7 cm lac­er­a­tion to the back of her head, as well as soft tis­sue in­juries to the face, up­per and low­er lips.
