Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles has congratulated Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis and the Progressive Liberal Party on their electoral victory and renewed mandate from the people of The Bahamas.
Davis and his ruling Progressive Liberal Party were re-elected yesterday, making him the first Bahamian leader to secure a second consecutive term in nearly 30 years.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Opposition and the People’s National Movement, Beckles said the victory reflected the continued confidence of the Bahamian people in Davis’ leadership, vision and commitment to national development.
She described the result as a historic achievement, saying Davis had demonstrated resilience, steady leadership and a deep dedication to the advancement of his country.
Beckles also referred to Davis’ service as the fifth Prime Minister of The Bahamas since 2021 and his role as Minister of Finance. She said Davis, a distinguished attorney and longstanding parliamentarian, had played an influential role in Bahamian public life for decades.
The Opposition Leader also pointed to his leadership of the Progressive Liberal Party since 2017 and his representation of Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador in the House of Assembly.
Beckles said the people of The Bahamas had once again demonstrated their commitment to democracy and good governance.
“As fellow Small Island Developing States within CARICOM, our countries remain united in purpose as we work together to strengthen economic resilience, social progress, and regional solidarity,” she said.
Beckles added that Trinidad and Tobago remained committed to deepening the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
“Congratulations to the Government and people of The Bahamas,” she said.
