Op­po­si­tion Leader Pen­ne­lope Beck­les has con­grat­u­lat­ed Ba­hami­an Prime Min­is­ter Philip Davis and the Pro­gres­sive Lib­er­al Par­ty on their elec­toral vic­to­ry and re­newed man­date from the peo­ple of The Ba­hamas.

Davis and his rul­ing Pro­gres­sive Lib­er­al Par­ty were re-elect­ed yes­ter­day, mak­ing him the first Ba­hami­an leader to se­cure a sec­ond con­sec­u­tive term in near­ly 30 years.

In a state­ment is­sued on be­half of the Op­po­si­tion and the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment, Beck­les said the vic­to­ry re­flect­ed the con­tin­ued con­fi­dence of the Ba­hami­an peo­ple in Davis’ lead­er­ship, vi­sion and com­mit­ment to na­tion­al de­vel­op­ment.

She de­scribed the re­sult as a his­toric achieve­ment, say­ing Davis had demon­strat­ed re­silience, steady lead­er­ship and a deep ded­i­ca­tion to the ad­vance­ment of his coun­try.

Beck­les al­so re­ferred to Davis’ ser­vice as the fifth Prime Min­is­ter of The Ba­hamas since 2021 and his role as Min­is­ter of Fi­nance. She said Davis, a dis­tin­guished at­tor­ney and long­stand­ing par­lia­men­tar­i­an, had played an in­flu­en­tial role in Ba­hami­an pub­lic life for decades.

The Op­po­si­tion Leader al­so point­ed to his lead­er­ship of the Pro­gres­sive Lib­er­al Par­ty since 2017 and his rep­re­sen­ta­tion of Cat Is­land, Rum Cay and San Sal­vador in the House of As­sem­bly.

Beck­les said the peo­ple of The Ba­hamas had once again demon­strat­ed their com­mit­ment to democ­ra­cy and good gov­er­nance.

“As fel­low Small Is­land De­vel­op­ing States with­in CARI­COM, our coun­tries re­main unit­ed in pur­pose as we work to­geth­er to strength­en eco­nom­ic re­silience, so­cial progress, and re­gion­al sol­i­dar­i­ty,” she said.

Beck­les added that Trinidad and To­ba­go re­mained com­mit­ted to deep­en­ing the long­stand­ing bonds of friend­ship and co­op­er­a­tion be­tween the two coun­tries.

“Con­grat­u­la­tions to the Gov­ern­ment and peo­ple of The Ba­hamas,” she said.
