A 24-year-old man from Bel­mont was de­nied bail on Tues­day af­ter he was charged with mur­der, wound­ing with in­tent, pos­ses­sion of a firearm and pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion.

Samuel Alexan­der was charged on Feb­ru­ary 14, fol­low­ing the ad­vice of As­sis­tant Deputy Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, Daniel­la Thomp­son.

Alexan­der is ex­pect­ed to re-ap­pear in court on No­vem­ber 10.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, around 11:20 am on Sep­tem­ber 27 2024, a group of peo­ple were lim­ing along Ser­raneau Road, Bel­mont, when a sil­ver Nis­san Ti­i­da ap­proached. A man armed with a ri­fle ex­it­ed the ve­hi­cle and fired sev­er­al shots in the di­rec­tion of the group. One vic­tim was struck on his left leg, while a sec­ond vic­tim was struck about the head and body.

Both men were tak­en to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal for med­ical at­ten­tion.

How­ev­er, the sec­ond vic­tim, Tafawa Roberts, 24, of Bel­mont suc­cumbed to his in­juries on Oc­to­ber 4 2024.
