A 45-year-old Bel­mont man be­came the coun­try’s lat­est mur­der vic­tim, af­ter he was gunned down yes­ter­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice re­port­ed that at 1.15 pm, Ja­son Mur­ray, of Lian Hill, Bel­mont, was do­ing con­struc­tion work at a house on Davis Street, Bel­mont, when a gun­man ap­proached him and opened fire.

Mur­ray died at the scene.

His killing took the mur­der toll to 32 for the year com­pared to 44 for the same pe­ri­od last year.
