Fed up of their pleas for lights at their recreation ground falling on deaf ears, residents of Charuma Village, Biche, staged a fiery protest in the community on Monday morning.

Armed with placards, they blocked the road twice in two areas along the Cunapo Southern Main Road.

They complained that for the past 17 years, they have been pleading for lights to be installed at the ground which plays an important role in their lives and community, but to date, nothing has been done.

The pavilion is also broken down and poses a danger.

Terry Francis, the community activist, is calling on the authorities, including the Sports Minister, to say why their pleas are being ignored.

The residents also complained about the lack of jobs and drainage in the community.

Meanwhile, villager Noel Charles said residents are frustrated and are giving the authorities a month to communicate with them or they will resume protest action.

The police and fire service responded and cleared the debris off the road.
