The 2019 edition of the Blue Food Festival got off at Bloody Bay, Tobago on Saturday.

The highlight of the first day of the two-day event saw a curry duck river lime cookout competition that featured teams from both islands.

George Leacock, Festivals Director of the Tobago Festivals Commission, said he was happy that the weather held up for the opening of the event.

In 2018 the event had to be cancelled because of heavy rainfall which caused landslides in several parts of the island. Leacock said the competition was for bragging rights.

He said once the event was marketed aggressively in Trinidad he expected greater participation next year.

Leacock said calypso veteran David Rudder, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service band and other activities are planned for a packed day.
