BIGWU donates digital learning devices to children in rural communities

The Bank­ing In­sur­ance and Gen­er­al Work­ers Union pre­sent­ed dig­i­tal learn­ing de­vices to stu­dents of the Mafek­ing Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School and Ma­yaro Sec­ondary School on Tues­day Sep­tem­ber 28th, 2021. BIG­WU says that they ex­pect to make con­tri­bu­tions to at least two oth­er schools in To­co and Matelot lat­er this week and sub­se­quent­ly in To­ba­go next week. The first de­liv­ery of dig­i­tal learn­ing de­vices ac­quired by the Bank­ing In­sur­ance and Gen­er­al Work­ers Union for the ‘Adopt a School’ ini­tia­tive were pre­sent­ed to stu­dents of Mafek­ing Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School and Ma­yaro Sec­ondary School yes­ter­day, Tues­day Sep­tem­ber 28, 2021.

BIG­WU’s Gen­er­al Sec­re­tary, Com­rade Trevor John­son de­liv­ered fif­teen (15) learn­ing de­vices which were re­ceived by stu­dents and Prin­ci­pal of Mafek­ing Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School, Mr. Richard Roop­nar­ine, at a small cer­e­mo­ny at the school.

In a sep­a­rate small func­tion, Vice Prin­ci­pal Ms. Joan Sant­lal and se­lect­ed stu­dents of the Ma­yaro Sec­ondary School were on hand to re­ceive ten (10) de­vices as part of the do­na­tion from BIG­WU ‘Adopt a School’ ini­tia­tive. Gen­er­al Sec­re­tary, Trevor John­son, in hand­ing over the de­vices urged the stu­dents to utilise them for the ben­e­fit of their ed­u­ca­tion re­mind­ing them that “an in­vest­ment in ed­u­ca­tion reaps the best re­wards”.

The Union ex­pects to make con­tri­bu­tions to at least two oth­er schools in To­co and Matelot lat­er this week and sub­se­quent­ly in To­ba­go next week. The Union has re­ferred to this ‘Adopt A School’ ini­tia­tive as part of its so­cial re­spon­si­bil­i­ty in these un­prece­dent­ed times of a glob­al pan­dem­ic.
