The body of Tara Lochans­ingh was found Sat­ur­day morn­ing in Matu­ra Riv­er.

The Hunters Search and Res­cue Team post­ed news of the dis­cov­ery on its Face­book page, say­ing the Coast Guard divers had re­trieved the body.

A mas­sive search ef­fort was un­der­way yes­ter­day to find a 48-year-old woman who was "swept away" in a riv­er.

Po­lice of­fi­cers, as well as mem­bers of the Hunters Search and Res­cue Team, were search­ing for Tara Lochans­ingh in the Matu­ra Riv­er up to late yes­ter­day evening.

Po­lice said around 4:30 pm on Fri­day, Lochans­ingh was with some 10 to 15 fam­i­ly mem­bers cel­e­brat­ing the Eman­ci­pa­tion Day hol­i­day at the riv­er, when she and a six-year-old rel­a­tive got in­to dif­fi­cul­ties.

The six-year-old girl was res­cued.

How­ev­er, Lochans­ingh was swept away in the swollen riv­er fol­low­ing heavy rain­fall.
