A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday after he was allegedly found in possession of a loaded gun during an early morning raid at a house in Penal.
South Western Division officers got to the house along Penal Rock Road around 6.11 am, but the owner was not there.
On the upper floor of the house, however, they saw a young man lying in a hammock. When the officers asked him what he was doing there, he said he was the caretaker of the ducks on the compound.
Strapped across his shoulder was a brown pouch and inside the officers allegedly found a black and silver Sig Sauer Pistol with a magazine containing three rounds of .9mm ammunition.
The teen was immediately arrested and cautioned under the Children's Judges Rules and detained at the Oropouche Booking Centre. The officers also searched another home in the district belonging to a 27-year-old man. With the assistance of the K-9 Unit, the officers allegedly found next to a coconut plant a black crate containing 22 rounds of 9mm ammunition and nine rounds of .40 ammunition wrapped in a black and blue plastic bag.
The man was detained at the Penal Police Station.
Insp John, Sgt Khadaroo, WPC Perelion-Rowans and PC Nelson were among the officers involved in the anti-crime exercises.
