Boy, 17, charged with carjacking granted $40,000 bail

A 17-year-old boy charged fol­low­ing a car­jack­ing in­ci­dent last Sun­day was grant­ed $40,000 bail by a Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trate yes­ter­day.

He is ex­pect­ed to reap­pear vir­tu­al­ly be­fore the Port-of-Spain Chil­dren’s Court on Jan­u­ary 24th, 2021. He was charged by W/Cpl (Ag.) Rivers of the San Juan Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment on No­vem­ber 25th.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports on No­vem­ber 21st, two men board­ed a taxi in San Juan and asked to be tak­en to Port-of- Spain. How­ev­er, up­on reach­ing 6th Av­enue, Barataria, one of the men al­leged­ly point­ed a firearm at the dri­ver and an­nounced a rob­bery. The dri­ver was able to es­cape and the men drove off with the ve­hi­cle.

On No­vem­ber 23rd, the dri­ver was stand­ing along Sad­dle Road, San Juan, when he spot­ted one of the sus­pects. The dri­ver al­so ob­served of­fi­cers of the In­ter-Agency Task Force on pa­trol in the area and point­ed the man out to the of­fi­cers.

The sus­pect was im­me­di­ate­ly de­tained and tak­en to the San Juan Po­lice Sta­tion pend­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions. Fol­low­ing fur­ther en­quiries, the 17-year-old sus­pect was charged with one count of rob­bery with ag­gra­va­tion. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.
