A 17-year-old boy charged following a carjacking incident last Sunday was granted $40,000 bail by a Port-of-Spain Magistrate yesterday.
He is expected to reappear virtually before the Port-of-Spain Children’s Court on January 24th, 2021. He was charged by W/Cpl (Ag.) Rivers of the San Juan Criminal Investigations Department on November 25th.
According to police reports on November 21st, two men boarded a taxi in San Juan and asked to be taken to Port-of- Spain. However, upon reaching 6th Avenue, Barataria, one of the men allegedly pointed a firearm at the driver and announced a robbery. The driver was able to escape and the men drove off with the vehicle.
On November 23rd, the driver was standing along Saddle Road, San Juan, when he spotted one of the suspects. The driver also observed officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force on patrol in the area and pointed the man out to the officers.
The suspect was immediately detained and taken to the San Juan Police Station pending investigations. Following further enquiries, the 17-year-old suspect was charged with one count of robbery with aggravation. Investigations are ongoing.
