The bul­let rid­dled body of a URP work­er was found by po­lice in Fyz­abad on Sat­ur­day night.

Act­ing on an anony­mous tip off called in to the Fyz­abad Po­lice Sta­tion at around 11 pm, of­fi­cers went to Gow­ers Well Road where they found the body of An­dre Syd­ney, a fa­ther of one.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors sus­pect his death to be drug re­lat­ed but Syd­ney’s neigh­bours at Pond Street, La Ro­maine, said they did not know him to be in­volved in drugs. One res­i­dent said Syd­ney was orig­i­nal­ly from Fyz­abad and moved in­to the area with his sib­lings af­ter his grand­par­ents died. No one was at the vic­tim’s home when the T&T Guardian vis­it­ed yes­ter­day.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.

In an­oth­er in­ci­dent, at around 9.30 pm on Sat­ur­day, a se­nior fire of­fi­cer was at his home in Mon Re­pos when two men en­tered and an­nounced a hold up. The in­trud­ers stole a quan­ti­ty of cash and jew­el­ry and beat the 54-year-old of­fi­cer about his head and body. He is ward­ed at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal in sta­ble con­di­tion.
