The end of an era and continuation of a legacy is how Garry Sinclair’s retirement from Cable and Wireless Communications is being dubbed. Garry is known across the region for his expertise, experience and passion for customers.
A statement from the company quoted Inge Smidts, Chief Executive Officer of CWC as saying: “Garry is a great leader and has achieved legend status throughout C&W. Many of you know him as ‘The Captain’ with his penchant for direct communication or straight talk, no chaser as he puts it. I have come to know him as a kind and supportive team-mate, and someone I could depend on. I am honoured to have had Garry on my leadership team and to have been a part of his journey.”
Sinclair, a Jamaican national, leaves with over 25 years’ experience in developing growth opportunities and transformation in organisations across the region.
Among the roles he held at CWC during his tenure were president – Caribbean; CEO, Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC); CEO, Cable & Wireless Jamaica.
In his role as president and COO of investment bank Dehring Bunting & Golding, Sinclair grew a start-up business to be key player in the Caribbean financial services industry.
As the CEO of Cable & Wireless Jamaica, he has successfully led the operation’s transformation, growing the mobile subscriber base from two hundred thousand to almost one million customers, as well as leading the company’s 800+ employees through the integration of the Columbus and C&W businesses to become the country’s leading converged telecoms operator.

Smidts also said: “We reluctantly say farewell to our friend, mentor, and leader. We thank you for your many years of service, for the example you set, the path you have paved, for your love of the people, both colleagues and customers, and for all that you have done over the years to make this business a success.”
