Trade union leader Vin­cent Cabr­era has been ap­point­ed to the In­dus­tri­al Court.

The pres­i­dent of the Bank­ing, In­sur­ance and Gen­er­al Work­ers Union was among six peo­ple named to serve at the court.

At­tor­ney Gen­er­al Faris Al-Rawi con­firmed the ap­point­ment dur­ing a press con­fer­ence at the At­tor­ney Gen­er­al and Le­gal Af­fairs tow­er on Mon­day.

Cabr­era joins An­gela Hamel-Smith, In­di­ra Ram­per­sad-Suite, Eliz­a­beth Solomon and Nizam Khan in the gen­er­al ser­vices di­vi­sion.

Al-Rawi al­so con­firmed that cur­rent In­dus­tri­al Court mem­ber Lawrence Achong was re­in­stat­ed as head of the Es­sen­tial Ser­vices Di­vi­sion.

Chief Ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer of the North West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty Wendy Ali was al­so named as a mem­ber of that Di­vi­sion.

Al-Rawi said the ap­point­ments rep­re­sent­ed a bal­ance as it in­volved peo­ple with back­grounds in the Cham­ber of Com­merce, the trade union move­ment, and the Pub­lic Ser­vice.

The At­tor­ney Gen­er­al said the ap­point­ments were made to deal with va­can­cies in the in­ter­im but said the Gov­ern­ment was still con­sid­er­ing amend­ments for the In­dus­tri­al Court.
