Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the sud­den death of a four-week-old ba­by at his Caratal home on Sun­day morn­ing. 

The ba­by's fa­ther, Natan Mo­hammed, 23, told po­lice that around 10:30pm on Sat­ur­day, his 18-year-old com­mon-law wife fed their son and placed him on a bed at their home to sleep. The par­ents slept on the same bed, with a pil­low to bar­ri­cade the ba­by.

Some time lat­er, around 3:20 am, the cou­ple dis­cov­ered their ba­by was un­re­spon­sive.

They called an am­bu­lance, and the ba­by was con­veyed to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where doc­tors tried to re­sus­ci­tate him. He was pro­nounced dead at 4:46 am.

An au­top­sy is ex­pect­ed to be done this week.
