The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government, in collaboration with key national agencies, has issued a River Level Advisory as of 1:30 PM on Saturday, May 18, 2025.
The advisory, which includes data provided by the Water Resources Agency, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), and other partners, highlights varying river capacities across the country.
The report shows that several rivers are nearing or above 60% capacity, prompting increased monitoring. The Caroni River at Bamboo Settlement #3 is currently at 71% capacity, while Caroni Tumpuna and Cunupia River stand at 72% and 68% capacity respectively. El Carmen, also located along the Caroni River, is at 66%, and the Manuel Congo River is at 63%.
Arouca, at 56%, and other rivers such as Caura River (48%) and South Oropouche (41%) remain below critical thresholds but continue to be observed due to potential weather impacts and tidal changes. Low tide is scheduled for 2:28 PM and high tide at 9:07 PM, which may influence river levels in some areas.
Conversely, several rivers are registering relatively low capacities, including the Maraval River (20%), North Oropouche at Toco Road (25%), and the Cipero River (26%). The Diego Martin River, currently at 39%, remains within the low-risk range.
Residents are urged to stay informed and exercise caution, especially those in flood-prone areas.
The public is encouraged to contact the Disaster Management Units of their respective municipal corporations for updates and assistance as necessary.
The Ministry emphasized that this advisory is based on the latest information generated by the Corporations’ Disaster Management Units and will be updated as new data becomes available.
