Police believe a man, who passersby thought was sleeping in his car, was beaten, stabbed and left for dead in his vehicle.
Officers identified the man as Byron Maharaj, 53, of La Solita Road, Kelly Village, Caroni. He was found seated in his car, with several stab wounds about the body.
Police said the victim was found by people who went to check on him after they observed the car had been parked along the road near Mambo’s Bar, South Bank Road, Kelly Village, Caroni.
It was initially thought that Maharaj had been asleep in the car, and it was only upon checking that he was discovered dead with several stab wounds about the body.
Maharaj was reportedly engaged in an altercation with two men at the bar on Sunday night, following which he reportedly stumbled out and got into his car.
Guardian Media was told that CCTV footage showed two men approaching Maharaj’s car, following which they were seen beating him.
One of the suspects appeared to be holding a knife.
Investigators said an arrest was imminent.
