A cashier remains in police custody in connection with the theft of more than $53,000 from a Western Union outlet at a supermarket in Point Fortin.
According to a police report, Western Union alerted the supermarket to discrepancies in transactions processed at its outlet located at Persad’s Supermarket.
A subsequent review of CCTV footage allegedly showed an employee receiving a sum of money, examining it, and placing it into her handbag.
A total of $53,817 has been reported missing.
The employee was arrested and taken to the Point Fortin Police Station.
Investigations are ongoing.
