A cashier re­mains in po­lice cus­tody in con­nec­tion with the theft of more than $53,000 from a West­ern Union out­let at a su­per­mar­ket in Point Fortin.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port, West­ern Union alert­ed the su­per­mar­ket to dis­crep­an­cies in trans­ac­tions processed at its out­let lo­cat­ed at Per­sad’s Su­per­mar­ket.

A sub­se­quent re­view of CCTV footage al­leged­ly showed an em­ploy­ee re­ceiv­ing a sum of mon­ey, ex­am­in­ing it, and plac­ing it in­to her hand­bag.

A to­tal of $53,817 has been re­port­ed miss­ing.

The em­ploy­ee was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Point Fortin Po­lice Sta­tion.
