Cepep worker killed while cutting grass

An em­ploy­ee with the Com­mu­ni­ty-Based En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion and En­hance­ment Pro­gramme (Cepep) was killed while cut­ting grass in Ca­roni on Wednes­day morn­ing.

Ar­shad Baal was shot mul­ti­ple times by gun­men around 8 am on Roy­al­tern Av­enue, La Paille Vil­lage, Ca­roni.

A re­port said a black car stopped next to Baal and his co-work­er who had their backs turned to the road. The oc­cu­pants opened fire on them.

Baal died at the scene, while his in­jured col­league was rushed to hos­pi­tal by a pass­er-by.

Po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tors are yet to es­tab­lish a mo­tive for the killing.

Cop, wife ar­rest­ed for fraud

A Po­lice Con­sta­ble and his wife were ar­rest­ed by of­fi­cers of the Fraud Squad on Wednes­day morn­ing as part of a probe in­to forged doc­u­ments sub­mit­ted to the High Court in an on­go­ing civ­il mat­ter.

In­ves­ti­gat­ing of­fi­cer said the con­sta­ble was last as­signed to the Traf­fic Branch, He was ar­rest­ed at his home around 11 am while his wife was ar­rest­ed at her work­place about an hour ear­li­er.

Sources said the woman’s work­place was searched and sev­er­al doc­u­ments seized.

Po­lice said sus­pi­cions were aroused when the sig­na­tures on sev­er­al doc­u­ments, sub­mit­ted by the cou­ple, were in­con­sis­tent with those of oth­er doc­u­ments.

They said that the peo­ple whose sig­na­tures ap­peared on the doc­u­ments de­nied hav­ing signed them.

The man and his wife are ex­pect­ed to be ques­tioned by in­ves­ti­ga­tors.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tions are be­ing led by Cpl Nobutt, of the Fraud Squad.

Fake cops rob Princes Town man of $50,000

A Princes Town man, who was tricked in­to be­liev­ing po­lice of­fi­cers were bang­ing on his door yes­ter­day morn­ing, was robbed of $50,000.

A re­port said that around 1.30 am, the 52-year-old man, a PH dri­ver, was awak­ened by bang­ing on the front door at his Nia­math Trace, Iere Vil­lage home. He heard male voic­es shout­ing "po­lice". Think­ing they were po­lice of­fi­cers, he opened the door. In­stead, he was con­front­ed by four ban­dits dressed in dark coloured cloth­ing. They robbed him of $50,000, a $1,500 cell­phone and ten gold rings. PC Har­riper­sad is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
