A 32-year-old Chaguanas woman was tricked out of $5,500 in cash as she tried to “get in” on an alleged drinks deal.
Police said the victim messaged a man on Facebook - whom she was introduced to by a mutual friend and known only as Glenn who claimed he was employed at Tru Valu, Trincity Mall– enquiring about an alleged link to obtain cheap drinks.
The victim arranged to meet the suspect at Tru Valu around 11.30 am on June 25.
The two met in the carpark, following which the man who is of African descent and slim built with a low haircut – told the woman she had to purchase some empty cases.
The suspect who was said to be a Grenadian national, clad in a long sleeved cardigan, black face mask, long blue jeans and a reading glasses took the woman to Hauxing Supermarket, Eastern Main Road, Tacarigua where she purchased $100 worth of empty cases.
The two then headed back to Tru Valu, Trincity where she handed over the cash along with her driver's permit after he stated that his supervisor was going to organise an invoice.
Uneasy after he failed to return a short while later, the woman entered the grocery and spoke to the supervisor on duty, where she was then informed that there was no Glenn employed at the grocery.
Numerous calls to his cell phone went unanswered.
On the last call, the suspect answered and told he was headed to Chinapoo, Morvant before it was disconnected.
