China hands over PPE donation to T&T

Trinidad and To­ba­go has re­ceived an­oth­er do­na­tion of equip­ment and ma­te­ri­als to help in its fight against COVID-19, from the Peo­ple’s Re­pub­lic of Chi­na.

Ac­cord­ing to an of­fi­cial state­ment from the Min­istry of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs, to­day’s of­fi­cial cer­e­mo­ny in­volved the hand­ing-over of thou­sands of units of Per­son­al Pro­tec­tive Equip­ment (PPE), from the Henan and Shang­hai Provin­cial Peo­ple’s Gov­ern­ments.

The Shang­hai Mu­nic­i­pal­i­ty re­cent­ly do­nat­ed med­ical sup­plies and equip­ment to the city of Port of Spain.

HAND OVER CER­E­MO­NY FOR DO­NA­TION OF PER­SON­AL PRO­TEC­TIVE EQUIP­MENT
BY THE PEO­PLE’S RE­PUB­LIC OF CHI­NA TO THE GOV­ERN­MENT OF THE RE­PUB­LIC OF TRINIDAD AND TO­BA­GO

In the con­text of the his­tor­i­cal ties, strong friend­ship and ro­bust co­op­er­a­tion be­tween the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go and the Peo­ples’ Re­pub­lic of Chi­na, that coun­try’s Em­bassy hand­ed over Pro­tec­tive Per­son­al Equip­ment (PPE) to the Gov­ern­ment of the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go dur­ing a Hand Over Cer­e­mo­ny, which took place at the head­quar­ters of the Min­istry of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs on 1st May, 2020.

Dur­ing the Hand Over Cer­e­mo­ny, His Ex­cel­len­cy Song Yu­min, Am­bas­sador for the Peo­ple’s Re­pub­lic of Chi­na to the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go, ex­pressed his ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the sol­i­dar­i­ty of the Gov­ern­ment and Peo­ple of Trinidad and To­ba­go when his coun­try faced the out­break of COVID-19.

Am­bas­sador Song Yu­min hand­ed over 14,200 masks and 100 pro­tec­tive over­alls on be­half of the Henan and Shang­hai Provin­cial Peo­ple’s Gov­ern­ments to Sen­a­tor the Ho­n­ourable Den­nis Moses, Min­is­ter of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs. He al­so took the op­por­tu­ni­ty to com­mend the Gov­ern­ment of Trinidad and To­ba­go on the mea­sures im­ple­ment­ed to slow the spread of the virus.

On re­ceiv­ing the items, Sen­a­tor the Ho­n­ourable Den­nis Moses, Min­is­ter of For­eign and CARI­COM Af­fairs, thanked the Am­bas­sador on be­half of the Gov­ern­ment and Peo­ple of the Re­pub­lic Trinidad and To­ba­go for the do­na­tion and the sup­port of the Peo­ple’s Re­pub­lic of Chi­na since the start of the COVID-19 out­break in Trinidad and To­ba­go.

He added that to­day’s do­na­tion, along with the 44,700 plus items re­ceived pre­vi­ous­ly, will go a long way in equip­ping our front­line work­ers treat­ing with COVID-19 pa­tients and at­trib­uted the on­go­ing col­lab­o­ra­tion in the fight against COVID-19 to the long­stand­ing friend­ly re­la­tions be­tween the two coun­tries.
