A Chinese national was killed after being shot multiple times at Seventh Avenue, Barataria, at around 9 am yesterday.
According to police reports, officers received a report of a shooting at Seventh Avenue at around 9.48 am.
When they responded, they found a male Chinese national on the ground near a vehicle, outside of Decoded Carnival Lounge.
He was bleeding from gunshot wounds to his torso.
The victim was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, but died while being treated.
He was later identified as 20-year-old, Yu Yi Jen.
When Guardian Media visited the scene on Sunday morning, a resident told us that they heard two gunshots. He said he wasn’t surprised that there was a shooting in the area in light of recent shootings that took place.
Other residents looked on, wondering why there were so many police officers around.
Upon hearing about the shooting, several residents said they no longer felt as safe as they once did in Seventh Avenue because there has been an increase in shootings.
Last November, a 33-year-old Chinese national was shot in his face after leaving his Seventh Avenue, Barataria home.
A week before he was shot, his vehicle was set on fire.
A video that appeared to be captured by close circuit television, showed a white vehicle pulling up as Yu Yi Jen was about to enter his vehicle.
A man exited the front passenger seat and ran up to the victim before shooting him at close range.
He then returned the vehicle with sped off.
