The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) says officers intercepted an unregistered vessel carrying a number of undocumented foreign nationals that had crossed the Trinidad/Venezuela International Maritime Border.
The incident occurred around 9:43 am, when the vessel was first observed southeast of Islote Point on the South coast of Trinidad.
The TTCG officers were able to detain the vessel after a short pursuit.
A statement from the Coast Guard reports:
"Onboard were 27 undocumented foreign nationals comprising: 16 adult males, eight adult females, and three male minors. The persons and the vessel were taken in tow and escorted to the TTCG’s Headquarters in Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas. The Immigration Division and Trinidad and Tobago Police Service were informed. Investigations are ongoing."
