A high-powered team of police officials led by Commissioner of Police, Erla Harewood-Christopher, visited the scene of last night’s deadly shooting in Cocorite, which left Four persons are dead, and eight others wounded.
In response to the incident, CoP Harewood-Christopher immediately summoned a high-powered meeting comprising the Deputy Commissioners of Operations and Intelligence and Investigations, the ACP Criminal Division, the Head of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, the Head of the Special Investigations Unit and heads of several other Operational Units.
The team currently is visiting the scene.
CoP Christopher has condemned the latest act of violence, which she described as ‘senseless’.
She is once again assuring the population that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will pursue all investigative leads with a view to bringing the perpetrators of this incident to justice, in the shortest possible time.
CoP Christopher and members of the Executive of the TTPS also have extended their deepest condolences to the families of those who died in last night’s incident and wish the injured victims a speedy recovery.
The Police Service is urging anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the hotlines 555 or 800-TIPS or contact the nearest police station.
Reports are that 12 persons were gathered on the eastern side of Building F, Phase 1, Powder Magazine, Cocorite, around 11pm, on Saturday 4th May, 2024, when a dark coloured motor vehicle approached them. It is alleged that two armed men then exited the vehicle and opened fire on the group before returning to the vehicle and escaping.
The eight wounded victims, ages 19 to 39, all of the area, were taken to the St. James Medical Centre for treatment and then transferred to another institution.
36-year-old Jonathan Osmond, of Cocorite died at the scene, while Shaquille Ottley, 22, and Antonio Jack, 57, also of Cocorite, were pronounced dead at hospital.
Sadiki Ottley, 31, of Cocorite, died while undergoing treatment.
Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region One, is continuing investigations.
