A 33-year-old man is in crit­i­cal con­di­tion af­ter he was shot mul­ti­ple times by a po­lice­man dur­ing an al­ter­ca­tion in San­ta Cruz on Sun­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said the 34-year-old Con­sta­ble got in­to an ar­gu­ment with his ex-girl­friend and be­gan beat­ing her.

A man who was near­by in­ter­vened and fought with the of­fi­cer, but was thrown to the ground and shot six times by the po­lice­man.

Passers-by took the wound­ed man to hos­pi­tal where he re­mained up to Mon­day morn­ing.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the of­fi­cer was cau­tioned and de­tained by of­fi­cers of the San Juan CID.
