The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says two additional men will be charged in connection with the murder of Municipal Police Corporal Anusha Eversley, and the theft of firearms and ammunition from the San Fernando Municipal Police Headquarters.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro said the TTPS has taken full cognisance of national concerns surrounding the case, adding that the Service understands the seriousness of the incident, the anxiety it has caused, and the public expectation that all responsible individuals will be held to account.
He said the update follows further consultations with Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, SC, which resulted in formal instructions to lay charges against a 24-year-old scrap iron dealer of Claxton Bay and a 20-year-old construction worker, also of Claxton Bay.
The two men will be charged alongside a 28-year-old municipal police officer who is already in custody.
CoP Guevarro said all three accused will face joint charges of murder, robbery with violence, firearm trafficking and possession of ammunition. He confirmed that the municipal police officer remains the only officer charged in the matter at this time, while the others are civilians.
The Commissioner said the charges arise from coordinated inquiries and recovery operations carried out over several days, during which 44 firearms, large quantities of ammunition and multiple magazines were recovered across Claxton Bay, Gasparillo, Makale and surrounding areas.
He added that Assistant Superintendent of Police Maharaj of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations is formally preferring the charges.
CoP Guevarro said once the process is completed, the three men will be taken before a Master of the High Court.
He said the TTPS continues to pursue all remaining leads, including identifying any additional facilitators and recovering outstanding firearms, while assuring that updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
Anusha Eversley, 42, was discovered dead at the Municipal Police Headquarters on Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, around 4.40 am on Sunday. She was a mother of three children, aged 18, 15 and seven, and had over 19 years of service.
An autopsy revealed she was beaten and strangled to death.
