Police are working on the theory that Mrs India Worldwide pageant contestant and registered nurse Sadna Gangoo led a double life—working both as a nurse at the Princes Town District Health Facility and as a producer of adult pornographic videos. They suspect this secret “profession” could have a connection to her killing.
Yesterday, police revealed that Gangoo’s murder investigation had taken a shocking turn, as several people starring in the adult videos were expected to be questioned in relation to the case.
Gangoo, 44, a mother of one and grandmother of two, was brutally gunned down around 4.30 pm outside the Princes Town District Health Facility on Wednesday, as she walked to her parked BMW on Circular Road. She suffered a fatal bullet wound to the back of her head. The shooter remains at large having escaped in a waiting Nissan Tiida car along the Naparima/Mayaro Road.
Speaking to Guardian Media, a police official—who asked not to be named—disclosed that Gangoo had been secretly involved in producing explicit content featuring multiple men and women over the past few years. One of these videos shared online, the official said could provide answers about her murder.
Just days before her killing, the police official said Gangoo had delivered a legal summons to a man, threatening action over the intended release of these videos, which would have jeopardised her chances in the pageant. On Sunday, Gangoo participated in the talent segment of the Mrs India Worldwide competition, as the Princes Town delegate, at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts.
The police investigation also revealed that several of Gangoo’s relatives, who were unaware of her clandestine activities, are now living in fear. They have sought police protection, terrified that they too might be targeted. Close relatives have declined to comment.
A source, who asked not to be named, said Gangoo’s double life had sent ripples of shock among her family members. The source mentioned that Gangoo’s second husband, Kevin Gangoo, 32, died on September 1, 2019, after falling out of a maxi taxi, and her life was never the same.
In a tribute to Kevin, Sadna wrote: “My husband and I were very close. I am having a very difficult time coping with this situation. I have faith that one day I will be with him again. It was a sudden death. It has been a hard struggle thus far even though people would say that as time goes by, it would get easier to cope.”
The source added that Gangoo owned two houses and was always helpful and kind to everyone. Originally from Buen Intento, her first marriage ended in divorce, but she remained friends with her ex-husband.
She got pregnant at age 16 and had her first and only child, with whom she shared a close bond.
Despite her humble background, Gangoo worked hard to get her education, attaining a BSN (Hons) in Administration at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, as well as an ADN Associate Degree in Nursing at the College of Science, Technology, and Applied Arts of T&T. She also studied Risk Management at Shadrack Safety Institute, Occupational Health and Safety, and Management of Health and Safety at The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH).
Police are now asking for the public’s help in apprehending her killer.
Senior homicide detectives, including Senior Supt of Homicide Sean Dhilpaul, Assistant Supt Anil Maharaj, and Superintendent Steve Persad from the Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations into the murder.
