A courier driver was robbed at gunpoint as he sat in his car and waited on his girlfriend outside her house in Freeport on Sunday night.

Police said the 28-year-old Couva man was accosted by four men—two of whom were armed with firearms—around 10.54 pm.

The victim had been seated in his car at Calcutta Road Number 1 when the suspects approached him and announced a robbery. The man had been parked in the garage of the apartment complex, waiting on the woman to come out.

However, the victim struggled with the armed men and a single gunshot was heard.

The suspects beat the victim before robbing him of an Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max valued at $4,500 and $2,200 in cash.

Efforts to steal the victim’s car proved futile and the suspects later fled in a white wagon, which had been waiting nearby.

The victim’s girlfriend called the police and officers from the Central Division responded.
