The Cou­va North con­stituen­cy has launched a na­tion­wide health ini­tia­tive en­ti­tled, “Cel­e­brat­ing Well­ness: A Health­i­er T&T” un­der the pa­tron­age of the Leader of the Op­po­si­tion, Kam­la Per­sad Bisses­sar.

Cou­va North MP Ravi Rati­ram said the pri­ma­ry aim of this cam­paign is to pro­vide the cit­i­zens of T&T with en­joy­able, stim­u­lat­ing phys­i­cal ac­tiv­i­ties and in­creas­ing our health lit­er­a­cy.

"It is our hope that by em­pow­er­ing and equip­ping com­mu­ni­ties to take charge of their health through pre­ven­tion and self-man­age­ment of chron­ic con­di­tions, we can build a health­i­er pop­u­la­tion and achieve bet­ter health (phys­i­cal, men­tal and psy­cho­log­i­cal) for all,” has said.

A state­ment by the con­stituen­cy said that Op­po­si­tion MP Dr Rai Rag­bir at­tend­ed and pro­vid­ed free med­ical con­sul­ta­tion and MP Rishad Seecher­an, pro­vid­ed free den­tal screen­ing.

The state­ment added that at the launch yes­ter­day, peo­ple from all over the coun­try par­tic­i­pat­ed in this mo­men­tous ini­tia­tive; one that Cou­va North has nev­er be­fore seen.

The event, chaired by MC Son­ny Bling con­tained sev­er­al el­e­ments of Trinidad and To­ba­go’s Car­ni­val with the sounds of so­ca and chut­ney so­ca mu­sic, live per­for­mances by pop­u­lar artistes, a Rhythm Sec­tion and Moko Jumbies.

Rati­ram told the event that the idea be­hind a na­tion­al well­ness cam­paign was based on a dis­cus­sion with the Leader of the Op­po­si­tion con­cern­ing the fo­cus on well­ness be­yond sea­son­al fit­ness dur­ing the Car­ni­val time and thanked Per­sad-Bisses­sar for her wis­dom, vi­sion and guid­ance.
