The Couva North constituency has launched a nationwide health initiative entitled, “Celebrating Wellness: A Healthier T&T” under the patronage of the Leader of the Opposition, Kamla Persad Bissessar.
Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram said the primary aim of this campaign is to provide the citizens of T&T with enjoyable, stimulating physical activities and increasing our health literacy.
"It is our hope that by empowering and equipping communities to take charge of their health through prevention and self-management of chronic conditions, we can build a healthier population and achieve better health (physical, mental and psychological) for all,” has said.
A statement by the constituency said that Opposition MP Dr Rai Ragbir attended and provided free medical consultation and MP Rishad Seecheran, provided free dental screening.
The statement added that at the launch yesterday, people from all over the country participated in this momentous initiative; one that Couva North has never before seen.
The event, chaired by MC Sonny Bling contained several elements of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival with the sounds of soca and chutney soca music, live performances by popular artistes, a Rhythm Section and Moko Jumbies.
Ratiram told the event that the idea behind a national wellness campaign was based on a discussion with the Leader of the Opposition concerning the focus on wellness beyond seasonal fitness during the Carnival time and thanked Persad-Bissessar for her wisdom, vision and guidance.
