COVID takes 14 more lives, active cases pass 19 thousand

Four­teen more peo­ple have lost their lives to COVID-19, with these lat­est deaths push­ing up the na­tion­al death toll to 3,372 lives lost, ac­cord­ing to the lat­est up­date from the Min­istry of Health.

Of these 14 new deaths, the Min­istry re­vealed that six per­sons had co­mor­bidi­ties; four per­sons had on­ly one co­mor­bid­i­ty each; while four per­sons had no known med­ical con­di­tions. 

Among the co­mor­bidi­ties which the Min­istry says tend to be present in those who have died from COVID-19 are di­a­betes, hy­per­ten­sion, kid­ney dis­ease, can­cer and sick­le cell dis­ease.

Al­so in its up­date for to­day, Fri­day 28 Jan­u­ary 2022, the Min­istry notes an­oth­er 768 peo­ple have test­ed pos­i­tive for the dis­ease, with these new cas­es push­ing the num­ber of ac­tive cas­es of COVID-19 in the coun­try at this time past the 19 thou­sand mark to 19,034.  The Min­istry re­ports that the 768 new pos­i­tive cas­es are based on sam­ples tak­en be­tween Jan­u­ary 21st and 27th.

Cur­rent­ly, some 688,611 peo­ple in the coun­try are ful­ly vac­ci­nat­ed, hav­ing com­plet­ed their vac­ci­na­tion reg­i­men—ei­ther com­plet­ing a one-dose reg­i­men or both dos­es of a two-dose reg­i­men for their re­spec­tive COVID-19 vac­cine.

The Min­istry al­so re­ports that those who have re­ceived their boost­er shots against COVID-19 have crossed the 100 thou­sand mark to 108,760 per­sons.
