The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will implement the International Cricket Council’s T20 International playing conditions beginning with the upcoming season.
This adjustment aligns CPL matches with the global standard and follows recent updates to ICC T20I regulations, including stricter over rate rules. These rules have contributed to shorter and more consistent match durations at the international level.
Tournament Operations Director Michael Hall said the CPL had taken note of the improvements these changes had brought to the global game.
“We’ve observed how impactful the ICC’s over rate regulations have been in reducing delays during T20 Internationals,” said Hall. “We are committed to delivering a world-class product that is efficient, entertaining, and in step with the global game.”
The CPL’s adoption of these rules is intended to enhance the experience for fans, broadcasters, and stakeholders by ensuring matches run to more predictable timeframes.
The change also holds implications for player development. With the CPL acting as a key feeder system to the West Indies national team, adopting ICC standards is expected to smooth the transition for players moving between domestic and international cricket.
Organisers indicated that the new rules would be in place for the start of the 2025 tournament and would apply to all teams and venues.
The Caribbean Premier League is scheduled to begin in August, with teams across the region preparing to compete under the updated conditions for the first time.
