Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) Commander Dr. Daryl Dindial has met with and congratulated the newly elected officials of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) executive.
A statement said he met with the new executive earlier this week as part of a courtesy visit to allow for introductions and exchanges.
The statement said coming out of the meeting, Dindial took the opportunity to provide status updates he received from the Ministry of Education on several issues, some of which included the payment of outstanding increments for teachers, classification of extended sick leave, and issues surrounding transitional arrangements and the assessment of qualifications.
It said the meeting was very cordial and both parties indicated a commitment to continue dialogue on those matters.
Further, the matters have also been placed before the Ministry of Education for their input, intervention, and resolution.
There was an agreement to continue meeting at least once per term to assist in resolving issues affecting the terms and conditions of our nation’s educators.
The CPO said he also acknowledged the contribution of the former president of TTUTA Antoina Tekah-DeFreitas.
He said he recalled her passion, persistence, and advocacy for improving the management of issues, the terms and conditions of employment of teachers and wished her continued success in her future endeavours.
Additionally, Dindial said he recognised the dedication, commitment, and professionalism "that our nation’s teachers often demonstrate, and expresses his profound gratitude to them for their continued service in shaping the hearts and minds of the upcoming generations."
Dindial is expected to continue discussions with the TTUTA executive on those issues in December 2022
