A police exercise in East Port-of-Spain yesterday resulted in the arrest of two men beliveved to be shooters. Police said the men were held at St Paul Street during an exercise conducted by officers of the Port of SpainTask Force, the Inter-Agency Task Force and Besson Street CID.
After the arrests, the officers went to Duncan Street and Lower Nelson Street where several homes were searched, but nothing illegal weas found.
The officers also seized 1900 grammes of marijuana during an exercise in Long Circular.
Enterprise man injured in shooting
Police are investigating an incident in Enterprise where a 23-year-old man was shot and wounded.
Investigators said the incident occurred around 7 pm on Monday along Mano Trace. The man was walking in the area when another individual approached and opened fire on him. The suspect left the scene immediately after.
Emergency services took the injured man to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he received medical care and was listed in stable condition.
Investigations are ongoing, led by PC Chapman.
Praedial squad stops robbery
Officers from the Praedial Larceny Squad (PLS) stopped a burglary at the One Stop and Convenience Store in Petit Bourg yesterday.
Police said around 2 am, PC Thomas, PC Carrera, and PC Emmons were on mobile patrol when they saw two men attempting to break into the store.
The officers, who were returning from the Central Market in Port-of-Spain and heading to the Bon Air farming district, stopped their vehicle, identified themselves and detained the suspects.
Officers from the San Juan Police Station’s Criminal Investigations Department later arrived and took control of the suspects.
High-grade marijuana seized by cops
Western Division police officers seized 36.6 kilogrammes of high-grade compressed cannabis in St James.
In a media release, the T&T Police Service said the exercise, led by ACP Tactical Support Collis Hazel and coordinated by Senior Superintendent Montrichard, Superintendent Frank, and ASP Pierre, took place on Wednesday around 7.45 pm.
Police said officers conducted a search of a house on Kandahar Street, where they discovered a suitcase, a black garbage bag, and a crocus bag containing 70 packages of cannabis.
In a separate operation, Western Division Task Force officers arrested three suspects on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 during an exercise between 10 am and 8 pm. The arrests included a 25-year-old man linked to robbery offences, a 38-year-old suspect wanted for shooting incidents in Diego Martin, and a 19-year-old charged with larceny. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.
And, the Tactical Support Unit seized two high-powered rifles and quantities of cannabis during December’s “Operation BLAST.” Police said the five major exercises resulted in:
One AK-47 rifle with 28 rounds of ammunition
One AR-15 rifle
1.2 kilogrammes of cannabis
Seven arrests
