CRIME BRIEFS: Two “shooters” held during SoE raids in PoS

A po­lice ex­er­cise in East Port-of-Spain yes­ter­day re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of two men be­liv­eved to be shoot­ers. Po­lice said the men were held at St Paul Street dur­ing an ex­er­cise con­duct­ed by of­fi­cers of the Port of SpainTask Force, the In­ter-Agency Task Force and Besson Street CID.

Af­ter the ar­rests, the of­fi­cers went to Dun­can Street and Low­er Nel­son Street where sev­er­al homes were searched, but noth­ing il­le­gal weas found.

The of­fi­cers al­so seized 1900 grammes of mar­i­jua­na dur­ing an ex­er­cise in Long Cir­cu­lar.

En­ter­prise man in­jured in shoot­ing

Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing an in­ci­dent in En­ter­prise where a 23-year-old man was shot and wound­ed.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the in­ci­dent oc­curred around 7 pm on Mon­day along Mano Trace. The man was walk­ing in the area when an­oth­er in­di­vid­ual ap­proached and opened fire on him. The sus­pect left the scene im­me­di­ate­ly af­ter.

Emer­gency ser­vices took the in­jured man to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, where he re­ceived med­ical care and was list­ed in sta­ble con­di­tion.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing, led by PC Chap­man.

Prae­di­al squad stops rob­bery

Of­fi­cers from the Prae­di­al Lar­ce­ny Squad (PLS) stopped a bur­glary at the One Stop and Con­ve­nience Store in Pe­tit Bourg yes­ter­day.

Po­lice said around 2 am, PC Thomas, PC Car­rera, and PC Em­mons were on mo­bile pa­trol when they saw two men at­tempt­ing to break in­to the store.

The of­fi­cers, who were re­turn­ing from the Cen­tral Mar­ket in Port-of-Spain and head­ing to the Bon Air farm­ing dis­trict, stopped their ve­hi­cle, iden­ti­fied them­selves and de­tained the sus­pects.

Of­fi­cers from the San Juan Po­lice Sta­tion’s Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment lat­er ar­rived and took con­trol of the sus­pects.

High-grade mar­i­jua­na seized by cops

West­ern Di­vi­sion po­lice of­fi­cers seized 36.6 kilo­grammes of high-grade com­pressed cannabis in St James. 

In a me­dia re­lease, the T&T Po­lice Ser­vice said the ex­er­cise, led by ACP Tac­ti­cal Sup­port Col­lis Hazel and co­or­di­nat­ed by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Mon­trichard, Su­per­in­ten­dent Frank, and ASP Pierre, took place on Wednes­day around 7.45 pm.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a search of a house on Kan­da­har Street, where they dis­cov­ered a suit­case, a black garbage bag, and a cro­cus bag con­tain­ing 70 pack­ages of cannabis.

In a sep­a­rate op­er­a­tion, West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed three sus­pects on Tues­day, De­cem­ber 31, 2024 dur­ing an ex­er­cise be­tween 10 am and 8 pm. The ar­rests in­clud­ed a 25-year-old man linked to rob­bery of­fences, a 38-year-old sus­pect want­ed for shoot­ing in­ci­dents in Diego Mar­tin, and a 19-year-old charged with lar­ce­ny. In­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to these cas­es are on­go­ing.

And, the Tac­ti­cal Sup­port Unit seized two high-pow­ered ri­fles and quan­ti­ties of cannabis dur­ing De­cem­ber’s “Op­er­a­tion BLAST.” Po­lice said the five ma­jor ex­er­cis­es re­sult­ed in:

One AK-47 ri­fle with 28 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion

One AR-15 ri­fle

1.2 kilo­grammes of cannabis

Sev­en ar­rests

581 stop-and-search op­er­a­tions, and
