Customers in parts of Central and South Trinidad are expected to experience disruptions to their water supply as the Point Lisas Desalination Plant undergoes its annual maintenance shutdown.
The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) said the shutdown, which began at noon on Monday, September 28, is scheduled to continue until noon on Sunday, October 4.
The plant, operated by the Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago (Desalcott), supplies WASA with 40 million gallons of water daily, supporting the Point Lisas Industrial Estate and supplementing supplies to parts of Central and south-west Trinidad.
WASA said customers normally supplied or supported by the plant could experience interruptions or changes to their regular water supply during the maintenance period.
Desalcott has advised that water deliveries to WASA are expected to resume at noon on Sunday, October 4. However, the restoration of the full contracted supply is expected to take between 24 and 48 hours.
Among the areas likely to be affected are Caroni, Cunupia, Chaguanas, Couva, Point Lisas, California, Claxton Bay, Gasparillo, Marabella and San Fernando.
Other affected communities may include Vistabella, Pleasantville, Palmiste, La Romaine, South Oropouche, Rousillac, Fyzabad, Siparia, Debe and San Francique.
Parts of La Brea and several communities in south Trinidad, including De Gannes Village, Quarry Village, Syne Village and Lowkie Trace, may also experience disruptions.
WASA said customers requiring truck-borne water supplies or further assistance can contact its Customer Contact Centre toll-free at 800-4420 or 800-4426.
Customers can also access the authority’s services through its mobile application or online customer portal.
The authority apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to customers for patience and understanding while the maintenance work is completed.
