Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says there is currently no evidence to suggest a senior official from the ministry was involved in a sex scandal with a junior employee, but says if anyone has evidence he will investigate.
Speaking to reporters after the commissioning of a US$350,000 Autoclave Unit at the San Fernando General Hospital yesterday, Deyalsingh was asked why the ministry had not reported the matter to the Public Service Commission.
However, he said neither he nor the Public Service Commission had received any reports on the matter because there is no evidence of it happening.
In response to suggestions that video evidence existed, Deyalsingh challenged the assertion, stating, “I haven’t seen any video, have you?”
He reiterated, “There is no evidence. It is all hearsay.”
He added: “No one has come forward to me, no one has come forward to the Public Service. It is all innuendo at this point in time. There is nothing to investigate because there is no evidence. If you bring evidence to me, I will investigate it.”
Last week, Health Ministry employees called for disciplinary action to be taken against the senior official accused of sexual misconduct.
Guardian Media was told that the official was sent on leave following an incident involving a junior at the ministry, which allegedly took place in the official’s office at the ministry’s new Port-of-Spain headquarters.
