The Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer of Dig­i­cel has as­sured that the telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions gi­ant re­spects cus­tomer in­for­ma­tion and main­tains con­fi­den­tial­i­ty at all times.

In a state­ment is­sued yes­ter­day, Dig­i­cel said it was re­spond­ing to com­ments about Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress (UNC) mem­bers ac­cess­ing cus­tomer in­for­ma­tion for po­lit­i­cal cam­paign­ing.

The claims were made by Min­is­ter of Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Stu­art Young at a press con­fer­ence on No­vem­ber 13 fol­low­ing the pub­li­ca­tion of a book by Christo­pher Wylie, for­mer da­ta Con­sul­tant at Cam­bridge An­a­lyt­i­ca.

Yes­ter­day, CEO of Dig­i­cel Trinidad and To­ba­go Jab­bor Kayu­mov stat­ed: “Re­spect­ing and main­tain­ing the con­fi­den­tial­i­ty of cus­tomer in­for­ma­tion is of para­mount im­por­tance to Dig­i­cel. At all times, we han­dle and treat with our cus­tomer in­for­ma­tion in ac­cor­dance with the laws and reg­u­la­tions of Trinidad and To­ba­go.”

Ac­cord­ing to claims made by Wylie, the com­pa­ny was al­lowed to ac­cess cit­i­zens pri­vate in­for­ma­tion with the bless­ing of the UNC and telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions providers.
