Doc­tor Dorothy Williams-Chan­dler, who was shot last month, died on Thurs­day night at the Ari­ma Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.

Po­lice said the sur­geon died af­ter com­pli­ca­tions with her surgery. Williams-Chan­dler was shot in the head on Au­gust 30 and re­mained in the in­ten­sive care unit since.

Her at­tack­er, Adam Wheel­er, was killed by an off-du­ty prison of­fi­cer who was dri­ving be­hind Williams-Chan­dler when she was at­tacked.

The shoot­ing hap­pened as she and a male rel­a­tive were on their way home.

In a me­dia re­lease, the NWRHA re­mem­bered Williams-Chan­dler for her ex­cep­tion­al sur­gi­cal skills and clin­i­cal ex­cel­lence as a sur­geon, a moth­er, and re­spect­ed mem­ber of our Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal com­mu­ni­ty.
