Up to late yesterday, police officers and soldiers were continuing the manhunt for the suspect in Friday’s double murder in Las Cuevas.
Hollis Valdez, 40, and Shireen Bailey Valdez, 41, were killed at their home on Rincon Road early Friday morning in what is being described as a deadly end to a love triangle. Police said the couple was asleep when they were killed between 7.30 am and 8 am.
The couple had been separated and during that time Shireen had begun openly seeing the suspect. However, she reportedly recently decided to return to her husband.
A close friend and colleague of the couple, who were both lifeguards, said Shireen had received threatening text messages from the suspect, who vowed to kill her and her husband
Villagers said after shooting the couple, the suspect dropped off lunch for his elderly father, who lives several houses away, before packing a bag with supplies, including food, water and clothing and heading into the nearby forest.
After hearing a single gunshot around 9 am, close to 40 villagers searched the surrounding bush for the suspect but did not find a body, leading them to believe he is alive and had used the gunshot to make people believe he had taken his life.
