The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has not issued any instructions to lay charges against anyone regarding the shooting of a 65-year-old Chaguanas grandmother Susan Medrano St Louis.
St Louis and her relatives had gone to purchase doubles at a Cunupia doubles stand on Saturday morning, when her relatives got in an argument with strangers over a parking spot. The argument escalated to a fight, where two of St Louis’ relatives were stabbed. One of St Louis’ relatives, who is a licensed firearm holder and prisons officer, pulled out his Glock pistol and fired three shots at his attackers, accidentally shooting and killing St Louis in the process. The wounded relatives were taken to the hospital, where they were treated for stab wounds.
Police sources confirmed homicide investigators met with the DPP on Sunday, who instructed them to release the man who fired the fatal shots, pending further enquiries.
Central Division police said the people in the Nissan Tiida, who were part of the fracas that led to the shooting, remained at large up to yesterday.
Meanwhile, Cunupia councillor Richard Sukdeo said the community was shaken after the incident, as it was generally a quiet, peaceful area.
Sukdeo also lamented how rows could turn violent. He urged the public to walk away from confrontations.
“At this time... because of the violence that pervades the society right now, people just need to think and pull themselves in check in any situation they feel can escalate to a volatile situation,” he said.
