Nearly two months after the South West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) launched an internal investigation into Dr. Joel Teelucksingh over an article he authored, the respected medical professional has been formally cleared of any wrongdoing.

Dr Teelucksingh, a specialist medical officer at the San Fernando General Hospital, was initially placed on administrative leave following the publication of his March 21 article, titled The Emperor’s New Hospital.

The piece, which critiqued aspects of the national healthcare system, prompted the SWRHA to initiate a probe into whether his actions breached professional protocols.

However, shortly thereafter, then Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, intervened, ordering Dr. Teelucksingh’s immediate reinstatement, while the investigation proceeded.
