A 61-year-old driver died after crashing his car into a utility pole in South Oropouche on Tuesday night.
The authorities identified the victim as Kenrick Ramsey, a labourer from Maraj Trace, South Oropouche.
Police said an anonymous caller alerted officers to the incident around 6.10 pm. When officers arrived near Ibis Circular Drive, Aripero Village, Rousillac, they saw a mint-green Nissan Bluebird Sylphy that had crashed into a concrete light pole on the side of the road.
Ramsey was pinned behind the steering wheel. Fire sub-officer Baboolal and his team from the Mon Repos Fire Station used the jaws of life to free him.
Due to his injuries, the police officers at the scene were unable to interview him to determine what transpired.
An ambulance took the 61-year-old to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 11 pm.
When Guardian Media visited his address, a neighbour said no one was at home.
Officers from the Oropouche Police Station are investigating the incident.
