A 61-year-old driver died after crashing his car into a utility pole in South Oropouche last night.
The authorities identified the deceased as Kenrick Ramsey, a labourer from Maraj Trace, South Oropouche.
An anonymous caller alerted the police about the incident around 6:10 pm. When officers arrived near Ibis Circular Drive, Aripero Village, Rousillac, they saw a mint-green Nissan Bluebird Sylphy that had crashed into a concrete light pole on the side of the road.
Ramsey was pinned behind the steering wheel. Fire sub-officer Baboolal and his team from the Mon Repos Fire Station used the Jaws of Life to free him.
Due to his injuries, the police officers at the scene could not interview him.
An ambulance took him to San Fernando General Hospital, where he died around 11 pm.
