The Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) has "unequivocally condemned" a circulating photo which claims the Commission’s Chief Election Officer (CEO) and several Returning Officers are affiliated with a political party.
The EBC revealed that the matter has been formally referred to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service for a thorough investigation.
This follows the emergence of a document that named EBC’s CEO, Fern Narcis, along with 10 other individuals appointed as Returning Officers, labelling them as "registered PNM members."
The EBC said these "unfounded assertions grossly misrepresent the truth and pose a direct threat to the integrity of the electoral process, particularly with the forthcoming Parliamentary Elections scheduled for Monday, 28 April 2025."
The Commission, in its release stressed: "We reaffirm that both the CEO and all Returning Officers remain fully committed to the principles of impartiality, professionalism, and the democratic values that form the foundation of our institution."
In its statement, the EBC condemned the circulating document as a "deliberate dissemination of misinformation," which it argued could undermine public confidence and risk eroding the democratic framework the Commission is entrusted to protect.
The UNC questioned on Tuesday if Narcis was a member of the PNM; a claim which she has repeatedly denied.
