Education minister visits 14 schools

Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Dr Nyan Gads­by-Dol­ly along with of­fi­cials from the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion vis­it­ed 14 schools in Port of Spain and the St. George East Ed­u­ca­tion Dis­tricts to­day. Dur­ing the vis­it, the min­is­ter en­gaged prin­ci­pals, teach­ers and school ad­min­is­tra­tors on var­i­ous op­er­a­tional mat­ters, such as in­fra­struc­ture, at­ten­dance, school dis­ci­pline, health and safe­ty. 

In Feb­ru­ary 2021, Min­is­ters Gads­by-Dol­ly and mem­bers of the MOE se­nior ex­ec­u­tive team em­barked on a sched­ule of semi­month­ly school vis­its. So far 126 schools have been vis­it­ed.  

The fol­low­ing is a press re­lease from the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion: 

Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ters, Dr. the Ho­n­ourable Nyan Gads­by-Dol­ly and the Ho­n­ourable. Lisa Mor­ris-Ju­lian, along with a team of Min­istry of­fi­cials, vis­it­ed a to­tal of four­teen (14) pri­ma­ry and sec­ondary schools, as well as an Ear­ly Child­hood Care and Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­tre with­in the Port of Spain and En­vi­rons and the St. George East Ed­u­ca­tion Dis­tricts on Tues­day, 22nd June, 2022. 

The MOE ex­ec­u­tives start­ed at 8:30am at Rus­sell Lat­apy Sec­ondary School, where they were greet­ed by the school’s Prin­ci­pal Mrs. Ali­cia Lu­cien-Bap­tiste. She led the MOE team on a tour of the school, where both Min­is­ters Gads­by-Dol­ly and Mor­ris-Ju­lian took the op­por­tu­ni­ty to en­gage stu­dents in brief con­ver­sa­tion about their school work. The MOE team next vis­it­ed Mal­ick Sec­ondary School, then moved to eleven (11) pri­ma­ry and sec­ondary schools and one (1) EC­CE Cen­tre. 

The schools vis­it­ed were - Mal­ick Girls’ R.C Pri­ma­ry, St. Colum­ba An­gli­can EC­CE (Barataria), Barataria AC Pri­ma­ry, St. Do­minic Savio RC Pri­ma­ry and St. George’s Col­lege, Barataria South Sec­ondary, Barataria North Sec­ondary, San Juan Boys’ and San Juan Girls’ R.C. Pri­ma­ry, San Juan Pres­by­ter­ian Pri­ma­ry, San Juan S.D.A Pri­ma­ry and Febeau Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry Schools. 

Min­is­ter Nyan Gads­by-Dol­ly and the team, which in­clud­ed Per­ma­nent Sec­re­taries Lenor Bap­tiste - Sim­mons and Kurt Mey­er, Chief Ed­u­ca­tion Of­fi­cer Dr. Pe­ter Smith, and Di­rec­tor of School Su­per­vi­sion, Joy Grif­fith, en­gaged prin­ci­pals, teach­ers and school ad­min­is­tra­tors on var­i­ous op­er­a­tional mat­ters, such as in­fra­struc­ture, at­ten­dance, school dis­ci­pline, health and safe­ty. 

Speak­ing with stu­dents at Barataria North Sec­ondary School Dr. Gads­by-Dol­ly re­mind­ed them about the im­por­tance of prepar­ing for their end of term ex­am­i­na­tion. “Re­mem­ber there’s a time for every­thing un­der the sun. Your ex­am­i­na­tions must be a pri­or­i­ty now and you must work hard in or­der to suc­ceed.” 

In Feb­ru­ary 2021, Min­is­ters Gads­by-Dol­ly, Mor­ris-Ju­lian and mem­bers of the MOE se­nior ex­ec­u­tive team, em­barked on a sched­ule of semi­month­ly school vis­its. The MOE team has so far vis­it­ed one hun­dred and twen­ty-six (126) sec­ondary, pri­ma­ry, Spe­cial Schools and EC­CE cen­tres across the sev­en Ed­u­ca­tion Dis­tricts in Trinidad, and will con­tin­ue un­til vis­its to all 823 schools have been com­plet­ed.
