The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) arrested four people for robbery and larceny-related offences, detained four others in connection with a firearms investigation, and recovered two stolen cellular phones during a series of intelligence-led operations as part of Operation RESOLUTE Shield in Chaguanas, Port-of-Spain and Tobago.
In a statement issued yesterday, the TTPS said that in Chaguanas, officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) conducted an intelligence-led exercise between 12 pm and 4.30 pm on Monday in response to recent robbery reports.
Police said officers went to a business establishment along Main Road, Chaguanas, where they arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with ongoing investigations. Officers later went to Soogrim Trace, Orange Valley, following a report of a stolen cellular phone and arrested a 25-year-old man.
During the exercise, officers also recovered two cellular phones that had been reported stolen.
In a separate operation between 5 am and 11 am on Sunday, officers assigned to the Port-of-Spain CID Area West targeted people suspected of involvement in a series of larceny offences, including the theft of air conditioning units and break-ins of motor vehicles.
Police said the exercise followed investigations into several reports, including a recent incident involving a vehicle in St Clair. Two people were arrested for larceny-related offences.
Meanwhile, around 12.35 am yesterday, officers of the Tobago Division, acting on intelligence about armed individuals in the Signal Hill district, carried out a joint operation with members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
According to police, Defence Force personnel intercepted a vehicle occupied by four men who were reportedly in possession of firearms. Police officers responded to the scene, where the occupants had already been secured.
Crime Scene Investigators processed the scene and officers from the Criminal Investigations Department assisted with the investigation.
Police said two high-powered rifles were found in the vehicle. The four occupants were detained, and investigations into the firearms matter are continuing.
