Eight sus­pects were ar­rest­ed, and three firearms, am­mu­ni­tion, and quan­ti­ties of nar­cotics were seized dur­ing a se­ries of an­ti-crime op­er­a­tions over the week­end.

In the first in­ci­dent, of­fi­cers from the Na­tion­al Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Unit, sup­port­ed by the Ca­nine Branch and the Trinidad and To­ba­go De­fence Force Spe­cial Op­er­a­tions Unit, pro­ceed­ed to a house in the St He­le­na dis­trict o Ju­ly 6. Three lo­cal men were ar­rest­ed and eight Span­ish-speak­ing women, in­clud­ing two mi­nors, were res­cued.

Au­thor­i­ties no­ti­fied the Im­mi­gra­tion En­force­ment Sec­tion and the Counter-Traf­fick­ing Unit. A pis­tol loaded with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing one round of am­mu­ni­tion was al­so seized.

The male sus­pects face charges of hu­man traf­fick­ing and pos­ses­sion of firearm and am­mu­ni­tion.

In a sep­a­rate op­er­a­tion in the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion on Ju­ly 5, of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a search in the Val­sayn dis­trict. One male sus­pect was ar­rest­ed af­ter be­ing found in pos­ses­sion of a firearm loaded with 18 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion.

In an­oth­er ex­er­cise on Ju­ly 3 in the East­ern Di­vi­sion, Task Force of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a tar­get­ed op­er­a­tion.

Four sus­pects, ages 31 and 56, were ar­rest­ed. Of­fi­cers seized one firearm with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 19 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion, along with a quan­ti­ty of cannabis.
