Three bandits beat a 77-year-old grocery store owner unconscious during a robbery at his Sangre Grande shop on Wednesday night.
Police said the man was at his business at the corner of Picton Road and Good Hope Street at 7 pm when he heard his dog barking.
As he opened the door to investigate, the bandits overpowered him, beat him, and tied him up.
They escaped with a quantity of cigarettes.
Neighbours who heard the commotion helped free the vendor.
Sangre Grande police responded and attempted to interview him, but he began drifting in and out of consciousness.
Officers took him to hospital, where he remained warded up to Thursday morning.
