Elderly businessman beaten, robbed of cigarettes in Grande

Three ban­dits beat a 77-year-old gro­cery store own­er un­con­scious dur­ing a rob­bery at his San­gre Grande shop on Wednes­day night.

Po­lice said the man was at his busi­ness at the cor­ner of Pic­ton Road and Good Hope Street at 7 pm when he heard his dog bark­ing.

As he opened the door to in­ves­ti­gate, the ban­dits over­pow­ered him, beat him, and tied him up.

They es­caped with a quan­ti­ty of cig­a­rettes.

Neigh­bours who heard the com­mo­tion helped free the ven­dor.

San­gre Grande po­lice re­spond­ed and at­tempt­ed to in­ter­view him, but he be­gan drift­ing in and out of con­scious­ness.

Of­fi­cers took him to hos­pi­tal, where he re­mained ward­ed up to Thurs­day morn­ing.
