During the current cut and thrust of political debates during the ongoing General Election battle, politicians have been delivering some gems and jabs on the hustings. Today, we continue to deliver some of the statements that may have been missed.
Prime Minister Stuart Young at Tuesday's Point Fortin meeting:
"This is not about making false promises - I will never do that! ... the next PNM government will deliver the change. This isn't ole talk or somebody reading a script they gave him or her to read trying to mamaguy the population. This is PNM talk under Young! We'll fight, we'll fight, we'll fight for what is right! You give us the mandate And I will bring it home!"
UNC Couva North candidate Jearlean John on the party's Monday Barataria platform:
"Something's happening, the ground is ready to take us to victory ... everywhere you go you hear the same thing 'We fed up of PNM, we want change!' TV6 polls on how people feel about election show 46 per cent for UNC, 15 per cent for PNM. Keith Rowley get eight per cent approval - and Stuart Young below the white line in the road. They gone! We winning!"
Prime Minister Stuart Young at Tuesday's Point Fortin meeting:
"Again - senior citizens' your pension is safe! They are lying to you! The UNC's embarked on a campaign of lies, dishonesty and misinformation. By tomorrow lunchtime, they'll take what I've said here and manipulate it into their lies - watch and see! And that is what 'yellow is the code' means but we say red is the word!"
UNC Couva North candidate Jearlean John on the party's Monday Barataria platform:
"Stuart Young say flour gone up! Stuart Young told us in astonishment, satlfish gone up! Maybe is because all the time Stuart Young saltfish was free! ... Kamla is the Box Drain Queen! She's going to give you box drains! She's gonna give you box drain in your rook-kung-ku-tung kung!"
PNM Tobago Council leader Ancil Dennis at last Sunday's Tobago rally:
"... You also have going up in Couva North - and I hope the daughter of the late Basdeo Panday cut her tail good and proper - is Jearlean John ... there they are talking about 'yellow is the code' and I see PNM people saying 'blue is the code', sorry 'red is the code' and I see the UNC in Tobago identifying as the TPP saying, 'blue is the code'. Forget code according to colours! This election is about code of conduct!"
OWTU's Christopher Jackman addressing UNC's Marabella attendees on Tuesday:
"Right now I feel we're in good times - we're about to see the backs of Colm Imbert, Fitzgerald Hinds ... The response is supposed to be a lot more fiery than that people..."
Prime Minister Stuart Young at last Sunday's Tobago's rally:
"I returned to T&T in 1998 and I've been very fortunate in my professional life. People say maybe it's because of diligence, working hard, intelligence. But I think God has smiled on me."
UNC Caroni Central candidate David Lee at Tuesday's Marabella meeting:
"God is great to me! They can't keep a good Chinee down ... I didn't think I'd ever make three papers' front page ..."
PNM Point Fortin candidate Kennedy Richards at Tuesday's Point Fortin meeting:
"(UNC) idea of youth development is to have a catch and rescue competition on Facebook and giving young black boys $200 and $500 to do Facebook videos to cuss PNM ... I know my opponents are frustrated, as they've been diagnosed with political impotence."
UNC host Michael Kerr in Barataria Monday:
"I call St Joseph candidate Devesh Maharaj the local George Clooney of politics, s we expect to get a hike of female voters in St Joseph."
PNM Tobago Council leader Ancil Dennis at the Tobago meeting last Sunday:
"I saw where the UNC leader said she's finally purged the UNC. All my life I know a purge to be something where it's an opportunity to expel everything's that's unwanted, toxic, wasteful and damaging to the body. Therefore, my question to Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the UNC and you the people, is that if the UNC is purged, how come Mrs Persad-Bissessar is still there?"
