EU and EMA discuss sustainability projects, the Green Agenda

Trinidad and To­ba­go has re­ceived a com­mit­ment from the Eu­ro­pean Union for sup­port with its ef­forts to ho­n­our the Green Agen­da, as well as projects in cli­mate change mit­i­ga­tion and adap­ta­tion.

An of­fi­cial state­ment from the En­vi­ron­men­tal Man­age­ment Au­thor­i­ty (EMA) re­ports that re­cent talks with His Ex­cel­len­cy Pe­ter Cavendish, Am­bas­sador Ex­tra­or­di­nary and Plenipo­ten­tiary of the Del­e­ga­tion of the Eu­ro­pean Union (EU), led to con­fir­ma­tion that both en­ti­ties will con­tin­ue to work to­geth­er to fos­ter sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment.

Am­bas­sador Cavendish met with EMA Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor Hay­den Ro­mano and his team on No­vem­ber 8, to en­gage in dis­cus­sions on es­tab­lish­ing sup­port for sus­tain­able projects through­out Trinidad and To­ba­go.

The EMA re­lease notes that His Ex­cel­len­cy ex­pound­ed on the Eu­ro­pean Union’s green agen­da and its will­ing­ness to work with small is­land de­vel­op­ing states such as Trinidad and To­ba­go to es­tab­lish large-scale sus­tain­able projects in cli­mate change mit­i­ga­tion and adap­ta­tion.

Oth­er ar­eas be­ing ex­plored for po­ten­tial part­ner­ships in­clude the Green Deal with Eu­ro­Cli­ma Caribbean, the es­tab­lish­ment of so­lar farms and the use of wind pow­er.

In ad­di­tion, the EU al­so of­fered to pro­vide tech­ni­cal as­sis­tance and train­ing for en­vi­ron­ment stake­hold­ers to sup­port the coun­try’s green ob­jec­tives and build cli­mate re­silience.

Oth­er en­vi­ron­men­tal is­sues dis­cussed in­clud­ed the sar­gas­sum sea­weed chal­lenge and pos­si­ble as­sis­tance from the EU to deal with it.
